The Business and Community Development division of Blackhawk Technical College will offer a professional development workshop series beginning in January. A diverse and timely series of three- and four-hour workshop topics are planned to bridge the challenges of a changing workplace. The following workshops will take place on the Janesville Central Campus.

Applying Leadership Skills: Techniques for Effective Leadership
This seminar will introduce Leadership theories and practices. Through activities, role-playing, videos, and discussion, students will explore aspects of leadership in an environment that encourages participation and engages active learning methods.

Dealing with Difficult People: Effectively Approaching Others
Difficult people come in every variety and no workplace is without them. How difficult a person is for you to deal with depends on your self-esteem, your self-confidence, and your professional courage. Learn to identify and deal with potential conflicts that may arise from working with difficult people and how to mitigate the negative effects.

Performance Management: Improving the Performance Appraisal Process
Appraising the performance of staff is an important, but often challenging, task for many managers.  While the parameters, characteristics and standards for evaluation vary by organization, the fundamentals of performance appraisal remain the same.  Through hands-on learning and practical application of performance appraisal principles, this training will provide participants with the skills to: recognize their roles and responsibilities in conducting a performance appraisal, adequately prepare and plan for the appraisal, explain the importance of providing meaningful feedback to employees, and identify the essential elements of an effective performance appraisal.
