Truck Driving

The trucking industry is an integral part of American business.  Practically every industry relies on trucking to transport products and materials and with the U.S. economy continuing to grow, truck drivers are in high demand.  In fact, according to the American Trucking Association, there is a shortage of more than 35,000 truck drivers. 

BTC wants to get you on the road to a new career in transportation.  This 12 credit program can be completed in just one semester and will provide you the skills and preparation to earn a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).  

The program focuses on teaching the essentials including:
  • Laws, penalties and regulation of transportation agencies
  • Trip planning
  • Cargo, inspection and logbook documentation 
  • Safety and emergency procedures
  • Maneuvering in and out of tight parking spaces narrow alleys and loading platforms
  • Management of loads and weight distribution
  • Communication with fellow drivers, dispatchers, shippers, mechanics and law enforcement personnel
In addition to the Truck Driving Technical Diploma, BTC also offers a five-credit course if you are interested in earning a Class B CDL.  This course trains drivers to operate various types of non-combination vehicles such as short-haul delivery trucks, construction vehicles and trucks used in sand mining, concrete or similar industries.
