Dr. Gina McConoughey will bring 12 years of higher education experience as an administrator and teacher when she assumes the position of Dean of Business at Blackhawk Technical College on May 31.
Dr. McConoughey is leaving the post of Dean of Business, Hospitality and Information Systems at Illinois Central College in East Peoria to take responsibility for the organization, administration and supervision of the Business credit programs at BTC.
“Blackhawk has a very positive impact on the region and provides an opportunity to grow a strong community through education,’’ Dr. McConoughey said. “The college has a wonderful reputation and it does quality work.’’
BTC President Thomas Eckert said, “Gina’s credentials and her variety of experience in both education and private business make her a perfect fit for this important position. She will be a great asset to both Blackhawk and the community we serve.’’
Dr. McConoughey received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University and worked for 11 years in private business before attending graduate school and beginning her teaching career.
“My experience as a business owner and manager, plus my experience in education, will help shape my decisions and actions regarding the continuous growth of the already strong programs offered at BTC,’’ she said.
Dr. McConoughey earned a masters degree in Adult Continuing Education from Northern Illinois University, an MBA from Bradley University and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction – Higher Education from Illinois State University.
She was a member of the faculty at Elgin Community College, Illinois Central College and Bradley University before becoming dean at Illinois Central two years ago.
Dr. McConoughey and her husband, Jim, are the parents of two. They plan on residing in Janesville.
