Latino Open House

Luis Montoto, the popular early morning radio host and founder of La Movida radio, will be the special guest speaker at Blackhawk Technical College’s Latino Open House on Saturday, April 9, an event that will feature a one-hour resource fair of community organizations that service the Hispanic community of the BTC district.

Montoto, whose show can be heard on 1480 AM out of Madison and 1330 AM from Rockford, will address how his own educational experience helped him become a successful radio programmer and how increased educational opportunities in the Hispanic community can lead to success.

Montoto’s presentation is part of an informative morning for those interested in what Blackhawk Technical College has to offer. The open house runs from 9 to noon at BTC’s Central Campus, 6004 S. Hwy G, Janesville.

Matt Gillhouse, a Spanish speaking immigration lawyer from Monona, also will be available for advice on the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals regulations.

In addition to the resource fair, information on the BTC admissions and financial aid process will be available. The session also will include an overview of BTC programs and a GED orientation.

Organizations interested in participating in the resource fair are asked to contact Katie Lange at BTC at (608) 743-4463 or at klange5@blackhawk.edu by April 1.

Those interested in attending should also contact Lange if transportation services are needed. BTC shuttle buses will be available for round-trip service from a variety of sites in Beloit and Janesville.
