Types of Credit for Prior Learning

Blackhawk Technical College grants credit based on demonstrated/documented high school, college, experiential learning, and/or exam results. These credits are granted based on knowledge and skills the student has previously mastered and which directly relate to the program curriculum. The attainment of these skills may be the result of prior work or volunteer experiences or through courses completed at other accredited institutions. This opportunity enables students to accelerate the completion of their educational goals.

A minimum of 25% of graduation credit requirements must be directly earned through graded coursework at BTC. The following are methods for obtaining advanced standing:

High School

Experiential Learning

Students who wish to pursue credit or waivers for competencies should contact the BTC Student Development in Student Services. We encourage students to obtain official transcripts from appropriate schools and/or colleges, regarding transferability, at the time they apply for admissions to reduce possible delays.
