Blackhawk Technical College Testing Center, located at the Central Campus, 6004 S County Road G, Janesville - Student Success Center, Room 2200, is dedicated to enhancing student learning and our community offerings by providing comprehensive, accessible testing and assessment services.

The center is committed to maintaining the highest compliance required by nationally-recognized testing standards and practices, safeguarding confidentiality of student records, and creating an optimal distraction free testing environment.


Accuplacer - College entrance exam

Placement Testing

Students must complete a placement test as part of the registration process.  These scores are utilized to determine appropriate course placement.  Blackhawk offers Accuplacer assessment at NO CHARGE for first time test takers.  It is recommended that students complete a placement test before meeting with an advisor.

Keep in mind you need to allow yourself 2 hours for testing, no Accuplacer tests will start after 5:00 pm

Accuplacer Retest Policy 

  • Retesting is an option if students believe their scores do not accurately reflect their abilities and skill levels.  A fee will be charged.
  • After reviewing the admission test scores, students may retest in each area ONCE utilizing Accuplacer.
  • Students who have completed Accuplacer as part of the admission process MUST wait 48 hours after their Accuplacer exam before retesting.
  • Students with scores older than 3 years are strongly encouraged to retest for accurate course placement.
Course Placement Retest

  • Students re-testing for course placement may do so after successful completion of their current one.
  • Further re-tests will require approval from the approved faculty and/or staff (i.e. dean, director).

S/P2 Test

Blackhawk Technical College offers Safety and Pollution Testing in accordance with https://sp2.org. To get started, please contact Eva Frazier at (608) 757-7666 or efrazier@blackhawk.edu for study guides and testing hours.

The S/P2 test must be taken for the Auto Mechanic and Diesel Mechanic programs.

What is S/P2?

S/P2 is the automotive industry standard for online safety and pollution prevention training, with courses that provide the knowledge and skills necessary for employees and students to complete their work effectively, efficiently, and safely. S/P2 industry-specific content helps managers, technicians, safety supervisors, shop owners, instructors, and students alike stay safe and compliant on the job or in the classroom.

Collision, Mechanical, and Claims Staff courses are available to businesses, whereas overview and awareness courses are available for Automotive, Construction, Cosmetology, and Culinary instructors and students at high schools, career and technical education schools, and colleges and universities.

S/P2 covers everything from basic workplace safety topics to targeted training for specific industry segments or groups of students.

Testing Policies

  1. A valid Picture ID Required – Photo I.D. must have first & last name.  Name must match the name on the test.
  2. COATS, JACKETS or SWEATERS that button or zip in the front are not permitted. If it zips, buttons up or opens in the front it must be placed in a locker.  If you think you will be cold, please wear a sweatshirt or a sweater that does not zip or button up.  HATS of any kind, hoodies, head scarfs/doo-rags, sunglasses must be removed and placed in a locker.
  3. Only items specified by your instructor will be allowed in the Testing Room.  All other belongings must be placed in a locker located outside of the Testing Center. The following items are not permitted in the Testing Room:
    1. Handbags, backpacks, messenger bags and briefcases
    2. Food or beverages
    3. Cell phones, Pagers, Apple Watch, iPods, Fitness Trackers or Bluetooth headsets and other electronic devices are not allowed in the Testing Room. These items must be placed in a locker due to testing security issues.  If you are caught with any of these items in the Testing Room, your exam will be considered ended.  Cell phones must be placed on silent or turned off prior to being placed in the locker.
    4. Notebooks, laptops or tablets, eReaders
    5. USB flash drives
  4. If caught cheating, the test and materials used will be taken from the student and submitted to the instructor as is.  The Instructor will be contacted regarding the incident.
  5. Homework cannot be accepted by Testing Center. Please make arrangements with your instructor.
  6. Going in and out of the Testing Room is not allowed.  If you leave the room, you will have completed your test and it must be turned in to the Testing Center staff.  Once a test is handed in, it cannot be returned to you for any reason.
  7. Please use the restroom before you enter the Testing Room.   If you leave the room without permission of the test proctor, your exam will be considered complete and must be turned in.
  8. Students requiring special arrangements, such as extensions and/or additional materials, must make those arrangements with the instructor.  The instructor must indicate these special arrangements on the make-up exam request form.
  9. No exams are given beyond the specified date without VERBAL or WRITTEN permission from the INSTRUCTOR to the Testing Center staff.
  10. Children are not allowed in the Testing Room.  If you have children, please make arrangements for their care while you take your exam.
  11. Students will only need to make an appointment when a computer is needed for their test or if they are taking a proficiency examination - everything else is on a walk-in basis. Due to FERPA regulations, all students must make their own appointments.
  12. Please allow adequate time to check-in and receive instructions for your exam.   No tests are distributed the last half-hour before closing under any circumstances.  All tests will be collected at closing time on make-up exam specified times, regardless of your testing time remaining.
  13. Come prepared and know the length of time allowed for your exam.  Give yourself enough time to complete the exam, please be aware of Testing Center make-up exam hours.  Multiple tests are proctored in the Testing Center and make-up exams have specific day and times.

Students may take these typing tests as many times as they want.  When practicing, students should put one space after a period, hyphens, back space OK, returns.  A copy of the scores will be sent to Admissions to be filed in the students records.
