BTC District Board Approves the Selection of Dr. Thomas Eckert
The BTC District Board took action at a meeting on Monday, June 28, 2010, to approve a contract for Dr. Thomas Eckert for the position of President of Blackhawk Technical College. Dr. Eckert's official start date with the College will be August 31.
Dr. Eckert has been the President of Bellingham Technical College, Bellingham, WA, for the past three years. Prior to then, he was employed at Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, WI, for fourteen years, twelve of which were as Vice President. He also served for four years in the United States Air Force, separating from the service at the rank of Captain. Following his military service, he spent nine years teaching and advising at Central Washington University.
Dr. Eckert holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Washington State University, a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology from Central Washington University, and a doctorate in Education from Seattle University.
Dr. Eckert was born and raised on a farm seven miles outside of Ellensburg, Washington. He and his wife, Robin, have three children, a daughter 31, a son 26, a daughter 23, two grandsons, and a granddaughter due to arrive in August.
BTC District Board Chair Tom Westrick stated, “The BTC District Board appreciates all of the input received from attendees at the Presidential Public Forums. It was very evident from the feedback received, everyone was extremely interested in the selection process and cared very much about the College. The District Board also expresses its appreciation for all of the work done by the Presidential Search Committee. The finalists recommended to the Board were all very qualified individuals. However, upon completion of the interviews, the Board felt that Dr. Eckert’s accomplished leadership skills, his presidential experience, and his experience within the WTCS all led to him being chosen unanimously to become the next President of BTC.”
