BTC Virtual Private Network (WebVPN)
Terms of Use

Web VPN Overview

Virtual private network services provide a secure method for allowing off-campus computers to access BTC materials and resources.  BTC's WebVPN, virtual private network (VPN) is a communications network tunneled through the Internet to the BTC campus network. VPN provides a secure method of accessing network resources. Currently, WebVPN is only offered to faculty and staff. 

Security

Actual or attempted unauthorized use of the Site may result in administrative and/or disciplinary actions.  For your protection, BTC reserves the right to view, monitor and record activity on the Site without notice or permission from you.  Any information obtained by monitoring, reviewing or recording may be subject to review by the appropriate authorities.

Virus Disclaimer

Reasonable steps have been taken to protect this network using  anti-virus software but all visitors are advised to take all necessary steps to ensure that no virus contamination occurs. No responsibility can be accepted for any loss or damage sustained as a consequence of any virus transmission.

Intrusion Detection

 BTC computer systems are subject to monitoring at all times to assure proper functioning of the systems, to provide security for the computer system's operation and information contained therein, to prevent unauthorized use. There is no reasonable expectation of privacy in the use of this VPN connection and accessing BTC assets.

User Responsibility

By using your BTC log on credentials, you are certifying that your personal computer is protected with anti-virus software and updated with the latest virus protection files.

Do not transfer personally identifiable information from the BTC network and store it on your home computer.  Do not download or store any information on your home computer that contains data subject to the rules of:

  1. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C.  1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) - information and resources to ensure compliance with FERPA for on-campus units that must protect the privacy of student education records.
  2.  Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLB) - information and resource is intended to help ensure compliance with the "Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act" or GLB Act for on-campus units handling students' personal financial information.
  3. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)  - information and resources intended to help ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for on-campus units handling electronic protected health information (ePHI).

Termination of Access; Changes to Terms

BTC reserves the right at any time to deny you access to the Site or any portion thereof. BTC may change these restrictions and conditions at any time, and you will be subject to these terms and conditions as then in effect at the time you are using the Site.

By using the Site you acknowledge that, in providing you access to and use of the Site, BTC has relied on your acceptance of these restrictions and conditions.
