How much time should I spend studying for my classes?

The general rule of thumb is multiply the number of credits you are taking by 2 and this number is an estimate of the number of hours you should spend preparing homework, reading assignments, reviewing for exams, etc. (example: 12 credits X 2=24 hours of study time outside of class.)

What do I do if I cannot make it to class?

It is best to contact the instructor directly whenever possible.  Many instructors will give you contact information at the beginning of the course.  You may also contact the registration desk and the staff can leave a note for the instructor.

If I have problems in a class what should I do?

  • Contact your instructor immediately if you are having  problems.  The instructor may have suggestions to help you.
  • Create your own study group.  It is helpful to review material with other students.
  • Take advantage of the Writing and Math Lab that is available to all students.
  • Consider enrolling in the study skills course "Becoming A Master Student ".
  • Contact the Monroe Campus counselor regarding a peer tutor.

What are "Program Ready Requirements"?

A handful of BTC programs, many of them health programs, require that students meet additional requirements beyond general admission requirements before their name can be placed on the wait list.  See the Monroe Campus counselor for specific program ready requirements.

What is a wait list?

A wait list is established for a program when the number of student applications exceed the number of spots available in a program.  With many of BTC's associate degree health program "program ready requirements" must be met before a student's name can be placed on the wait list (see "Program Ready Requirements" outlined above) You may also be placed on a wait list if an individual class has reached its maximum enrollment.

Can I access my student information online?

As a student at BTC you can access the following information through the Banner Web for Students.  You will have access to registration information, class schedules, grade reports, and unofficial transcripts. To access this information go the the BTC home page www.blackhawk.edu. At the login pull-down menu click Banner and follow the directions. (You will need to have your BTC ID student number)

How do I request a copy of my BTC transcripts

Students may request transcripts of their academic records by making a written request to the registration office.  This request may be made by letter or by using a transcript request for available at the registration desk.  Each graduate receives a complimentary transcript with his/her diploma.  Additional transcripts may be obtained for a small fee.
