Healthcare Associates
Certificate
A fairly new program, the Health Care Associate certificate
program combines the clerical and patient care aspects of this
occupation, helping those who complete this program to be more
“marketable” in this profession. In order to receive the Health Care
Associate certificate, students must complete the skilled Nursing
Assistant Course. The Healthcare Associate certificate then includes
two additional classes which help the “cross train” the student so
they can function in a variety of roles such as Patience Care
Technician or Receptionist, Health Care Coordinator, and various
other entry-level clinical and clerical positions. Since it is so
unique, the Bureau of Labor Statistics does not have an individual
category for this occupation, since the Bureau separates the
clerical and patient care aspects of various positions, but they do
indicate that the health care industry is the largest as of 2004,
providing 13.5 million jobs nationwide. Wage and salary employment
in the health care industry is projected to increase 27 percent
through 2014, compared to 14 percent for all other industries.
