In addition, BTC’s Culinary Arts program emphasizes opportunities for developing communication, problem solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills. BTC’s own food service kitchens offer opportunities with state-of-the-art equipment. A seven week externship allows for additional experience in varied settings. Competitions at the local and state level will also test your abilities. Scholarships are available for those who qualify based on need and competence.
The American Culinary Federation is the largest professional association of chefs and cooks in the nation. The American Culinary Federation Accrediting Commission (ACF-Accrediting Commission) has certified that the Culinary Arts program at Blackhawk Technical College has substantially met the commission’s standards. ACF has the only accrediting commission dedicated to culinary arts at the postsecondary level.
Accreditation is a voluntary process a program undertakes in order to be judged by professionals in the field of culinary arts. BTC’s program had to meet standards for their curriculum, faculty, facilities, resources, support staff, and organizational structure. Its objectives were realistic and obtainable and matched with current industry demands.
