The National Registry Test is required at the completion of the course for licensure in the State of Wisconsin. A clear Caregiver Background Check is required.

EMS provides a variety of courses for the general  public, business and industry, and emergency services personnel. Blackhawk Technical College will provide classes at your site and tailor classes to fit your specific needs for scheduling.

EMT-BASIC

EMT-Basic is 4 credits at eight hours per week totaling 144 hours plus 10 hours minimum in a hospital emergency room setting and ambulance ride-along training.  EMT's assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and extricate trapped persons, as well as transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities. Requirements for this course include a criminal background check and proof of current immunizations.

The course is also a pre-requisite for EMT-Intermediate Technician and EMT-Paramedic training.  Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to take the National Registry for EMT's exam.  Fees for the exam are approximately $70.00 for the written portion and $120.00 for the practical portion.

Pre-requisite for EMT-Basic:  You must be certified in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR to participate in this class.  For a list of classes offered, refer to our CPR or First Aid page. (Link)

EMT-INTERMEDIATE TECHNICIAN

EMT-Intermediate Technician is 3 credits at 4 hours per week for 12 weeks totalling 96 hours, where the student takes the next step beyond EMT-Basic.  The primary emphasis is learning how to administer IV's and other drugs.  Requirements include a current State of Wisconsin EMT-Basic license, a criminal background check and proof of current immunization records.
