Personal Growth and Continuing Education Begin Feb. 3 at BTC

Blackhawk Technical College offers a number of classes for personal growth and continuing education. The community is invited to take courses ranging from painting to electrical to gardening and more. While classes are offered throughout the spring semester, there are a number of classes that begin next week.

Explore wellness and creativity with these classes:

WELLNESS IN THE GARDEN. The following topics will be covered during our Wellness In the Garden workshops: Gardening for All Ages; Adapting the Garden; Appropriate Garden Tools & Tasks; and The Sensory Garden. Classes begin on February 4 and run for four sessions – Tuesday and Thursday nights through February 13 from 6 – 8 p.m. Cost: $31.80 ($4.50 for seniors 62+). Location: Blackhawk’s Central Campus.

ACRYLIC PAINTING. Painting with acrylics is exciting, versatile, and easy as you learn to use the basic supplies and techniques in this course. Acrylics can be used in an oil medium, through thick applications with a pallet knife for a heavy textured effect, or by mixing with water to create a watercolor effect. Students will provide their own supplies, which will be discussed at the first class session. Classes begin on February 5 and run for ten sessions – Wednesday nights from 6 – 8:30 p.m. Cost: $129.55. Location: AMTC, 15 Plumb Street in Milton.

Renew electrical skills credentials for your job with these classes:

PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS – INTRODUCTION. This class will introduce you to addressing, configuring, and building ladder logic to simulate industrial programming operations. The class is based on Allen Bradley RSLogix. Classes begin on February 3 and run for 10 sessions on Monday nights from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Cost: $110.26 ($7.88 seniors 62+). Location: AMTC, 15 Plumb Street in Milton.

ADVANCED BASIC ELECTRICITY. This intermediate electrical course will introduce the student to the concepts and use of three-phase power, power transmission, overload protection and grounding as specified in the National Electrical Code. Students may be eligible for up to 24 continuing education hours for the following credentials: Master Electrician, Beginning Electrician, Residential Master Electrician, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Journeyman Electrician, Industrial Journeyman Electrician, Residential Journeyman Electrician, UDC-Electrical Inspector. Classes begin on February 4. Sessions run every Tuesday through April 14 from 5:30 – 8:25 p.m. Cost: $106.88 ($4.50 seniors 62+). Location: AMTC, 15 Plumb Street in Milton.

ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS & MOTOR CONTROLS. This electrical course offers a hands-on approach to motor control circuit wiring and electrical schematic reading. Students will learn how and why an electrical motor works using hands-on training methods. Classes begin on February 6. Sessions run every Thursday through April 16 from 5:30 – 8:25 p.m. Cost: $106.88 ($4.50 seniors 62+). Location: AMTC, 15 Plumb Street in Milton.
