Update for College Operations March 17 - 29

March 16, 2020

As College leadership continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation, we are hoping to provide more updates and clarity regarding how it impacts our students, faculty, and staff. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. This is unlike any event we have ever experienced in our lifetimes and it is ever-changing. Your health and well-being is our main concern at this time and always.

We must continue to do our part to stop the spread of the virus. Therefore, we are implementing further changes for the next two weeks (Mar. 17 - 29). Starting immediately, Central and Monroe Campuses will remain open with only essential staff present to maintain areas of student support including:

  • Student Services (Welcome Center, Financial Aid, Registration, and Advising)
  • Student Success Center (Tutoring, Testing and Computer Labs)
  • IT Help Desk (at helpdesk@blackhawk.edu or (608) 757-7711)

Modified hours on Central Campus will be 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) and 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Friday).

Modified hours on Monroe Campus will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17. Beginning Wednesday, March 18 hours will be 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) and 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Friday)

Advanced Manufacturing Training Center and Center for Transportation will be closed to students during this time but will be available to faculty if needed.

So, what does that mean for our students?

  • Effective immediately, classes will not meet in-person. Classes will begin meeting online Wednesday, March 18 (as previously planned).
  • Labs and hands-on courses will be suspended until Monday, March 30.
  • Labs and courses that cannot be taught in an online format will be restructured using social distancing guidelines provided by the CDC effective Monday, March 30.
  • Clinicals and internships will continue to run as long as clinical sites are accepting students.
  • Student support services will be available online and at Central and Monroe campuses adhering to social distancing guidelines.
  • All campus events are canceled until further notice.
  • The spring semester will be extended to accommodate student needs, as necessary.
  • A list of resources for students without internet access can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions at Blackhawk.edu/Coronavirus.

What does this mean for our employees?

  • Each division/department will schedule essential employees on a rotating basis to limit the number of people on campus.
  • All non-essential employees will work remotely effective immediately.
  • All employees will continue to be available by phone, Zoom, and email during normal business hours.

All community education, professional development, and corporate training are suspended. Classes will resume on Monday, March 30.

Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Academy and Jail Academy will continue to meet using CDC social distancing guidelines.

These are challenging times and we are committed to minimizing the disruption to teaching and learning. Together, we can get through this and flatten the curve of infection.
