Construction Projects Begin at Central Campus

September 21, 2021

Exciting changes are underway! This fall, construction projects will begin in the Cafeteria, Commons, and Old Library. “These projects are part of the evolution of the College. To better support our students, we are enhancing our services and facilities to match the needs of our student body,” shared Dr. Tracy Pierner, President of Blackhawk Technical College.

As this work takes place, there will be temporary adjustments to foodservice and seating options. Starting the afternoon of Thurs., Sept. 23, the Cafeteria/Commons will close for construction. There will be no foodservice on Fri., Sept. 24 as equipment is relocated to the Starbucks area.

On Mon., Sept. 27, foodservice will reopen in the Starbucks area. The following new seating options will be available:
  • High-top tables in the hallway behind Student Services
  • High-top tables in the front atrium
  • Outdoor tent, with tables and chairs, by Door 2-19
  • Later in the semester, when cold weather takes the tent offline, high-top tables and chairs will be added to the hallways near the Starbucks area to provide additional seating options.

Starting Thurs., Sept. 30, the Old Library will close for construction.

The Cafeteria, Commons, and Old Library construction projects are expected to be completed by April 2022.

These newly renovated areas will elevate the on-campus experience by providing collaborative and inclusive spaces for our students. The upper level will be transformed into a brand new Conference Center and the lower level will be home to the Student Union and Cafeteria. The Student Union will also feature a Unity Lounge.

“The emphasis is on providing a supportive environment. We are focusing on creating spaces that enhance the student experience. Additionally, the advent of a Unity Lounge will create a space to engage with and learn about our diverse communities,” stated Dr. Pierner. “The facility enhancements will also provide new venues for our graduation and pinning ceremonies, reflecting the excellence of our programs and students.”
