Fannie Hardin Uses Tutoring at Blackhawk for Career Success
Fannie Hardin works for a Janesville nonprofit organization that supports school readiness for young children. For her role, her employer required her to take an early childhood education class at Blackhawk Technical College. She struggled the first time through the course, but the organization showed its support by allowing her to take the class again. So, Hardin enrolled again in the Child Development course.
This time, however, Student Success Specialist Rosy Flores encouraged her to use the tutoring service available to Blackhawk students. Hardin then connected with Evelyn Martens, one of the tutors.
“I love how she breaks down words with you,” Hardin said.
Today, Hardin is taking–and passing–her course with tutoring assistance from Martens in Blackhawk’s Learning Center. She is also becoming much more independent with her coursework, according to Erica Fenton, the department lead for the Learning Support Division.
Hardin’s experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
“I love it,” she said. “I would do it again here.”
For anyone considering tutoring, Hardin said, “Don’t say you can’t do it. Trust in yourself and others.”
And for employers looking to strengthen their employees, Fenton said Blackhawk and the available tutoring services can help build up an organization’s workforce with new skills.
