Get to Know Sheila Timm, Healthcare Simulation Program Coordinator

“Simulation brings together many of the things I am most passionate about: technology, education, creativity, and even elements of artistry. It is a uniquely interdisciplinary field that challenges me to think critically, innovate, and assist in creating meaningful learning experiences for others,” Sheila Timm, healthcare simulation program coordinator, said. “What I find most rewarding is that simulation is constantly evolving. This continual growth allows me to remain a lifelong learner while contributing to the knowledge and education of future generations.”

Her time at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was spent pursuing education in a variety of healthcare settings. She then went to Milwaukee Area Technical College to work as a nursing skills technician. It was at that time she fell in love with simulation. That interest led her to Blackhawk Technical College.

“I think Blackhawk offers students a more personalized and meaningful educational experience. Students are recognized as individuals rather than simply numbers, allowing for stronger connections with faculty, greater support, and a learning environment where each person's growth and success truly matter,” Timm said.

She shared how working with current and former students who volunteer to engage with prospective students to help them better understand healthcare careers demonstrates the supportive and collaborative culture at Blackhawk.

“It reflects a community that is genuinely invested in fostering growth, mentorship, and the success of future healthcare professionals,” she said.

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and exploring new places and cultures, she shared. She even lived in Scotland for a time.

“I am an avid reader with interests spanning nearly every genre, as I enjoy the opportunity to continually learn and experience different perspectives through literature,” Timm said.

She also likes to spend time with her family, her dog, and friends.
