Shaler Urish Joins Blackhawk Athletics Through Rock Internship
Shaler Urish, a Beloit native and student at Rock County Christian School, is gaining hands-on experience working with Athletic Director Nile Finney this summer through the Rock Internship Program.
Urish, who plans to graduate in 2026, said he was drawn to the internship because he is interested in sports management.
“I chose to participate in the Rock Internship Program because it is an amazing opportunity to experience the area that I want to go into,” he said. “The Athletics department here is a great opportunity for me to learn new things, especially working for Athletic Director Nile Finney.”
Throughout the summer, Urish hopes to gain professional connections and insight into how athletic departments operate in a collegiate setting.
“I want to learn how sports management works in conjunction with all the other departments, as well as discover the hidden aspects of sports management that most people don’t get to see,” he said.
He also shared that Blackhawk’s reputation made it an appealing place to intern.
“I know that the college has a small student-to-teacher ratio, so they are able to focus on individual learning experiences,” he said. “The college also has a very high satisfaction rating from graduates, and it shows that they were satisfied with their education and experience.”
Urish, who has a passion for soccer, said he would like to play professionally and one day own his own business.
