Wyatt Marshall a Leader on Talons Men's Golf Team

Wyatt Marshall, a student in the Agribusiness Science & Technology program, has consistently led in the scoring for the Talons Men’s Golf team this season.

Having played golf at Craig High School in Janesville, Marshall brings competitive experience to the team. Along with working on his own game, he also shared some of the techniques of pro golfers he admires.

“I’ve always liked Rory McIlroy's swing,” Marshall said. “Not necessarily to imitate his swing, but I've always admired his ability to hit the ball well. And for the short game, Phil Mickelson has been someone I've enjoyed watching … fun to watch the different shots he can hit around the green with lots of spin.”

Coach Nick Hagen said it's been a privilege to have the opportunity to work with someone of Wyatt's level, who in addition to being a good teammate is always looking to improve his own game.

“There's a lot of talent there, and he hits the ball as well as anyone I've been around,” Hagen said. “What I like most about Wyatt is, though he's a very good player, he wants to get better. His teammates see his drive to improve, and it makes them want to improve also. It's leading by example at its finest, and it has such a positive impact on the team.”

Marshall’s record this season includes these impressive results:

  • Over Labor Day weekend, Marshall secured a top 20 finish at the Culver’s Edgewood Classic, which was held at Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville. He finished +7 for the 36-hole tournament with rounds of 74 and 75.
  • At the Aug. 25 Highland 36 tournament in Freeport, Illinois, Marshall finished in a tie for 17th place with a 36-hole total of +10 and rounds of 75 and 79.
  • Marshall shot a 78 (+7) and tied for 43rd place at the Sept. 5 Judson University Fall Invitational golf tournament.

The Talons have two competitions remaining in the season. The team heads to Dixon, Illinois, for the Skyhawk Fall Classic on Sept. 25-26, then will compete in the Madison CC Invite in Sun Prairie for the final tournament of the season on Oct. 3.
