The Tuition Statement (Form 1098-T) is issued for each student enrolled and for whom a reportable transaction is made. For example, view the Sample 1098-T (PDF).
A hard copy will be post-marked and mailed by January 31. Also, electronic copies will be available to eligible students by January 31 in MyBTC under the Paying for College section.
After checking all of the above, if you still believe you had reportable transactions and are due a 1098-T form, please contact us at accounting@blackhawk.edu or (608) 757-7759.
It’s possible that a hard copy may have been mailed to your prior address. If you have not received your hard copy at either your prior or newly-updated address by February 18, 2020, and you are unable to access your 1098-T via the MyBTC portal, please send an email to accounting@blackhawk.edu to request a new copy.
For tax year 2017, 1098-T forms were issued based on amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses. This method changed in 2018 to payments received for qualified tuition and expenses. The change in the method is causing some confusion with the current year 2019 1098-T forms.
1098-T Information Regarding Total Amounts
Prior year 1098-T forms are available to students using the MyBTC portal in the Paying for College section under Tax Information.
Forms for tax year 2017 and earlier were created based on the previous reporting method (amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses). Forms for tax year 2018 onward will be created based on the new reporting method (payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses).
