Tax-Smart Tips for Year-End Giving

Each gift to Blackhawk changes lives, opening doors to education, providing essential support like food and housing, and advancing cutting-edge training. Your generosity impacts many—and can benefit you too. Here are tips to maximize your 2024 year-end giving.

2024 Charitable Gift Deadline – Tuesday, Dec. 31

  • Gifts made by check or money order must be dated and postmarked by this date. Mail them to Blackhawk Technical College Foundation, P.O. Box 5009, Janesville, WI 53547-5009.
  • You can give securely using the button above with a credit card until 11:59 p.m. in your time zone.

The college is closed Dec. 21, 2024 – Jan. 1, 2025. If you have questions or would like to make a gift in person, please contact Dr. Tracy Pierner, President of Blackhawk, at (608) 757-7770.

Other Tax-Smart Ways to Support Student Success this Season

  • If you have a donor-advised fund, recommend Blackhawk Technical College Foundation as the recipient of your distribution.
  • People who are 70½ and older can direct up to $105,000 ($210,000 if married and filing jointly) per year tax-free from their IRAs to charities like Blackhawk Technical College through a qualified charitable distribution (QCD).
  • Designate a charitable remainder trust as your IRA beneficiary. You or your beneficiaries will receive payments for a set number of years or for life, and at the end of the term, the remaining assets will go to the college. As part of the SECURE Act 2.0 legislation, you can direct a one-time $53,000 QCD to a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity this year.
  • If you are selling appreciated stocks or bonds, real estate or other non-cash assets, you may be able to boost your charitable deduction and eliminate capital gains tax by donating the assets to Blackhawk.
