August 23, 2018
Academic Advisor, Susan Dantuma (pictured below on the right assisting a student), is the recipient of the Advising Profession Impact Award from the Wisconsin Academic Advising Association (WACADA). This award is presented annually to a higher education professional in Wisconsin who has distinguished achievement in developing new, creative and effective programs for meeting student needs.
Dantuma is an academic advisor who serves students in the Health Sciences Division. “Suzy is a student-focused leader on our academic advising team. She is instrumental in training new academic advisors and has created a peer-advising program here at Blackhawk to help students be more successful,” said Dr. Melissa Lantta, Student Pathways Coordinator.
Academic advisors are an integral part of the student services team. Advisors encourage and guide students in developing their academic plans. From exploring options to selecting classes, advisors help students achieve their educational and career goals.
Nominations for this recognition were received from UW-System colleges and universities, private colleges, and colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System. “We are proud of Suzy for receiving this distinguished honor. She lives out our mission every day of providing a supportive environment for our students,” said Anthony Landowski, Executive Director of Student Services.
WACADA has over 250 professional members and is an affiliate of the National Academic Advising Association. The organization provides opportunities for networking and professional development, supports and promotes professional standards of academic advising, and fosters recognition of academic advising as a profession.
Dantuma will be honored and presented with this award in Platteville, Wisconsin during the WACADA Annual Conference taking place September 13-14, 2018.
