BTC Celebrates 500,000 miles/5 Years of Safe Shuttle Service

Blackhawk Technical College offers a free shuttle service for students that connects locations in Beloit, Janesville, Milton, Monroe, as well as University of Wisconsin - Whitewater at Rock County and University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. The College recently recognized its shuttle drivers for completing 500,000 miles and 5-years and being accident-free. The drivers recognized include: Larry Dunmore, Joann Gibson, Nicholas Hengeveld, Dan Krause, Douglas Lubke, and Robert Zechlin. 

“Research shows that students who connect with others at the college are more successful. The shuttle drivers play an important role in not only transporting our students but also building relationships that contribute to success,” said Vice President of Administrative Services Renea Ranguette.

The service that launched in 2014 transports an average of 700 riders each month. When it began, there were only five stops. Fast forward to today, the shuttles make thirteen stops in five cities in Rock and Green Counties. The newest routes were implemented in early 2019 to include stops at University of Wisconsin - Whitewater at Rock County and University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.

“Shuttle service has expanded since it began. Today, our drivers also deliver items between campuses, participate in community events, and provide roadside back-up to Beloit College transportation,” said shuttle driver and coordinator Dan Krause.

The College is continually looking to improve the support and services it provides to students. In addition to expanding routes and pick-up locations, Dan said, “We are also looking at adding bike racks and WiFi to the shuttles.”
