Blackhawk-Sponsored Programs Win Award

Image

Accepting the award are (l. to r.): Rhonda Suda, Mark Borowicz, Molly Markley, James Otterstein, and Colleen Koerth.

Blackhawk Technical College is a key partner for the local Rock Internship and Externship programs, which help students and teachers, respectively, learn more about careers. These programs were recently recognized by the Wisconsin Economic Development Association with a Community and Economic Development Award for Talent Attraction, Development and Retention.

“We’re so proud to be involved in these valuable programs,” Blackhawk’s Director of Workforce and Community Development Mark Borowicz said. “At Blackhawk, we are committed to preparing students for successful careers and supporting employers in developing the talent they need to grow. This recognition reflects the power of collaboration and the dedication of our partners to creating opportunities that benefit students, educators, employers, and our communities.”

The Rock Internship Program provides incoming high school seniors with a six-week paid opportunity to explore career pathways, gain hands-on experience, and develop technical and employability skills.

The Rock Externship Program gives area educators a one-week paid rotational experience with local employers, which helps them bring valuable industry insights back to the classroom.

Led by the Rock County Economic Development Agency in partnership with Blackhawk, the Southwest Workforce Development Board, Rock County 5.0, the County of Rock, local employers, and K-12 partners, these programs create meaningful connections between education and careers while strengthening the workforce pipeline throughout southern Wisconsin.
