Blackhawk Volunteers Help Fight Flooding
Blackhawk Technical College Foundation employee Rebekah Phillips is one of the volunteers filling sandbags.
The Rock River is currently in the moderate flooding category, but it has not yet reached its peak. The water level is expected to crest on Wednesday. Rock County Emergency Management officials asked for volunteers, and Blackhawk Technical College students and employees answered.
So far, there are 22 people from Blackhawk who have volunteered to help keep the floodwaters at bay, and more are getting involved in the sandbagging operation.
“We fully support our students, faculty and staff members who choose to help out with this work,” said Blackhawk President Tracy Pierner, Ph.D. “The community needs our help, and we’re here to do what we can.”
