Addie Krueger, who began Blackhawk Technical College’s Dental Assistant program this fall, was encouraged to enroll by fellow Blackhawk student Kylie Cole, who is herself a student in the Dental Hygienist program.

“I expressed my interest in dental assisting after she had shared her various stories with me when she was in the Dental Assistant program, and when she was working in a clinic,” Krueger said.

The short commute made the choice easier for Krueger, who lives in Janesville but attended Milton High School. Blackhawk’s welcoming atmosphere drew her in.

“They were eager to make sure I understood the program I was in, and other programs that would help me succeed during my time here,” she said. “They have different programs for tutoring, studying, even counseling, so it is nice to know I have a lot of resources to succeed.”

Krueger explained she’s been learning how to study and discovering which study habits work best for her.

“It is still an ongoing learning experience for me, even now. But finding what works for me really helps me with my education and learning,” she said. “Making friends in your program is worth it. Having someone there to understand your same struggles from class or having someone to talk to is a great way to get through the year.”

Krueger plans to graduate in 2026 and then work in a dental office for a year or two while pursuing an associate degree in the Dental Hygienist program.

Her advice to people considering Blackhawk is simple: “Definitely apply! The community is great here, and there are a lot of resources to help you take the right steps. I never felt more welcome anywhere until I applied to Blackhawk. I truly appreciate every staff member’s time and dedication to their jobs to help us students get on the right track.”
