Get to Know Dana Pierce, a Returning Student in the Behavior Technician Program

Dana Pierce

With an associate degree in Human Services from Blackhawk Technical College already under her belt, Dana Pierce is now working toward a degree in Blackhawk’s Behavior Technician program.

Pierce, a native of Mosinee, Wisconsin, was drawn to the Behavior Technician program because many of her credits from her Human Services degree were transferable, and the program aligns with the population she wants to work with in the future.

“I chose Blackhawk Technical College because of its location, affordability, flexible class options, and the variety of programs offered,” Pierce shared. “I plan to graduate in May 2026. After Blackhawk, I hope to work with families of children on the autism spectrum. I also plan to continue supporting and advocating for veterans and their families.”

She said that, while there have been obstacles and challenges along the way, “Everyone at Blackhawk has been incredibly supportive and understanding. I honestly can’t think of anyone who hasn’t been a cheerleader for me. The MyEdChoice format has also made it easier for me to continue my education in a way that fits my life.”

Classwork is not Pierce’s only interest at Blackhawk.

“I serve as the Parliamentarian for Blackhawk’s Student Government Association. I’m also the SGA liaison for the Medical Imaging Club and the Veterans Club, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and part of the Student Cupboard Committee,” Pierce said. “Being accepted into Phi Theta Kappa has been a huge accomplishment for me.“

Pierce encourages students to take advantage of all the resources and services Blackhawk offers.

“Everyone at Blackhawk is here to support you. Also, get involved in clubs! It really enhances your educational experience,” she said.

Life outside of Blackhawk is spent with her boyfriend and her family, helping them out however she can, she said. “I enjoy cooking, baking, and doing crafts—especially sewing and diamond art.”

While she used to raise and show goats for 4-H, these days her pets include three cats–Ziggy, 15, Lucy and Rerun, both 8–and a dog, Sadie, from an animal rescue, age 5. Additionally, Pierce said, “I have a lot on my bucket list, but one thing I’d love to do is travel the world and trace my family history.”
