RUHS ‘significantly exceeding expectations’ on state report card

“This success belongs to our entire RUHS community,” RUHS Prinicipal Patty Hernandez said.

Rock University High School is celebrating an outstanding year of growth on its 2024-2025 Wisconsin state report card. The school was rated “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and is the only high school in Rock County to earn that rating. Remarkable gains were made within the rating categories over the past year.

“It is encouraging to see RUHS students’ growth and achievement recognized on the state report card,” Blackhawk Technical College President Dr. Tracy Pierner said. “Blackhawk celebrates this tremendous accomplishment and indicator of continued success alongside our school and district partners.”

State report cards across Wisconsin saw higher overall scores this year due to changes in how the scores are calculated. Schools are rated based on students’ achievement, growth, target group outcomes, and on-track to graduation. The weighting of each factor is unique to each school based on socio-economic factors. That means the report card from DPI is not a comparison tool to use among schools, but rather an evaluation of the progress made by individual schools year over year.

By the numbers

The overall score for RUHS increased from 73.4 in 2024 to 85.3 in 2025. The increase of nearly 12 points was driven by a 15-point jump in achievement, a 12-point boost in growth, and an almost 20-point increase in target group performance.

“These results are a direct reflection of the dedication of our students, the commitment of our staff to high-quality instruction, and the support of our families,” said Patty Hernandez, Principal of RUHS. “The additional opportunities offered to RUHS students by Blackhawk allow even more growth opportunities for our students.”

Looking ahead

Steady improvement at RUHS reflects a clear focus on collaborative learning through inquiry, design, case studies, group projects and individual work.

“This success belongs to our entire RUHS community,” Hernandez said. “Together, we’re maximizing the potential of all our students.”
