Nursing assistants are vital members of the healthcare community and at Blackhawk, we offer the opportunity to pursue a Nursing Assistant technical diploma and take Nursing Assistant advanced coursework.

This 90-hour program includes classroom lectures, campus lab experiences, and a clinical practicum, where students work at healthcare agencies with patients and residents. In addition to the exceptional curriculum, you’ll practice your skills under the supervision of an experienced professional so that you are prepared to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam.

Accredited by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Bureau of Quality Assurance, students must be at least 16 years old to attend clinical practicum.

Academic Plan

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The deadline to register for the June 2026 (Summer 2026) Nursing Assistant class is Monday, June 2 (one week before the class begins).
  • The deadline to register for the August 2026 (Fall 2026) Nursing Assistant class is Monday, Aug. 17 (one week before the class begins).
  • The deadline to register for the October 2026 (Fall 2026) Nursing Assistant class is Monday, Oct. 12 (one week before the class begins).

Background Check

If accepted, you will be required to complete a criminal background check, complete the health requirements, and perform drug testing before starting clinical courses. Wisconsin law requires background checks of persons who provide care for others or have access to people who receive care. This law applies to Blackhawk Technical College Health Sciences Division students. For more information about the background check, view the Criminal Background Check Information (PDF).

In accordance with Wisconsin Caregiver Background law, applicants with a criminal history may be denied placement by clinical affiliates or ineligible for national certification examinations. Applicants with any criminal background are strongly advised to meet with the program faculty and/or program advisor.
