What You’ll Learn

The Basic Jail Academy at Blackhawk Technical College prepares you for an entry-level position as a correctional officer within the county jails. The five-week (200-hour) academy meets Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Department of Justice requires recruits to attend 100% of the training unless excused by the academy director. Excused absences are extremely limited and will only be granted under certain circumstances. After completion, recruits are eligible for certification with the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
