“Next to creating a life, the finest thing a man can do is save one.”  Abraham Lincoln

students practicing CPR

We’ve all watched scenes on television shows and in movies – someone collapses, another yells, “Does anyone know CPR?” A hero steps up and saves the day. Do you ever think, “What would I do in that situation? Would I be able to help save a life?”

When a person suffers a cardiac arrest, survival depends on getting CPR immediately. In fact, almost 90 percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, die. When CPR is performed within the first few minutes of an attack, a person’s chance for survival can double or triple.

Learning CPR and basic First Aid is something you should do not only for yourself, but for your family. Most likely, if you ever have to try to save a life, it will be of someone you love. Only 46 percent of people who experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest get the immediate help they need. Non-credit CPR, first aid or related training could be the most important class you ever take.

At Blackhawk Technical College, we offer the following training options:
  • BLS Provider
  • Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED
  • Heartsaver® CPR AED
