The Janesville Fire Department (JFD) asked Blackhawk to develop Health and Safety Officer (HSO) and Incident Safety Officer (ISO) classes to educate fire fighters on department and emergency incident safety.
The courses also needed to encourage professionals from different Rock County departments to collaborate. Blackhawk responded with convenient weekday, evening classes to maximize attendance and a curriculum that used group exercises to bring career and volunteer fire fighters together.
The result. More than 50 students participated in JFD’s training courses—developing positive cross-departmental working relationships that may just improve first responders’ ability to act quickly and collaboratively in an emergency.
