Faculty Spotlight: Will Walsh

Like so many BTC instructors who come from an industry background, Will Walsh started his career not as a teacher but as a Marine. As a Marine, he learned many leadership and social skills that are required to succeed in the classroom. After finishing military service, he transitioned to a City of Milwaukee Police Lieutenant, where he was responsible for training and leading special interdiction teams with S.W.A.T. Today he's retired from active duty but is still passionate about providing quality education to law enforcement students.

BTC Culinary Program Earns Top Designation

The Blackhawk Culinary Arts program recently earned the highest honor from its accrediting body, the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC). According to ACFEFAC, Exemplary Programs symbolize the highest educational standards recognized by the Commission. Blackhawk’s program was the first in Wisconsin to earn this designation in 2006. There are currently 13 accredited culinary programs in Wisconsin and Illinois, and only 4 of those have earned this distinction.

On the Front Lines of the BTC Nursing Program

Members of Blackhawk Technical College's Student Nursing Association (SNA) recently attended the Annual Wisconsin Student Nurses Association (WSNA) Conference. This year's conference was held virtually, and nearly 30 current and pre-nursing BTC students participated in the conference. The conference theme was Strength Lies in Differences, not Similarities, and featured a special presentation by Blackhawk Nursing instructor, Marlene Burgos-Stewart, MSN, RN, WCC.

Open Wide for a Wide-Open Career Opportunity

Kristen Ziegler started her technical college journey a mere six weeks after graduating from high school. By 21, she had graduated with her associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene, and for the ensuing 17 years, she’s worked in the industry as both a dental assistant and dental hygienist. A self-described “driven life-long learner,” she has since completed her bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene. Next spring, Kristen will graduate with a master’s degree in Career and Technical Education from UW-Stout. 

New Ag Scholarships Available for BTC Students

February 22, 2021

The Blackhawk Technical College Foundation is now accepting applications for an exciting new scholarship opportunity, Agricultural Scholarships for High School Seniors. A total of ten $1,000 awards are available for students who will start at Blackhawk in fall 2021. The application deadline is March 30, 2021.
