Holocaust Remembrance Day: A Time of Reflection for BTC Students

In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Blackhawk’s Multi-Cultural Alliance and its advisor, instructor Rubina Jan hosted screenings of Visual History Testimonies, a documentary production of Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. After creating the award-winning film Schindler's List, Steven Spielberg established the Foundation to videotape and preserve the testimonies of Holocaust survivors and witnesses.

Field Experience of Instructors Helps Student Excel

Real-world experience benefits technical college instructors in the classroom. That is especially true in the Criminal Justice program at Blackhawk Technical College. Nick Cervantes, a Criminal Justice student agreed, “One of the many things I like about Blackhawk, is that all the professors have had real-life experience in the field that they are teaching. This allows the professor to explain the topics from firsthand experiences and helps the students understand how things work out in the field.”

Personal Growth and Continuing Education Begin Feb. 3 at BTC

Blackhawk Technical College offers a number of classes for personal growth and continuing education. The community is invited to take courses ranging from painting to electrical to gardening and more. While classes are offered throughout the spring semester, there are a number of classes that begin next week.

New Earn and Learn Program at Blackhawk Addresses Workforce Shortages

Blackhawk Technical College has implemented a new earn and learn program in partnership with business and industry, to recruit, educate and graduate students in fields where workforce shortages exist. IT-Web Development student Leonardo Saenz has learned first-hand the benefits of being a Blackhawk Scholar. “You can start the Blackhawk Scholar program after your first semester and it’s amazing! I’ve found a lot of success through the program in finding a great internship within my field, making professional connections and improving my skills.”

Students Inducted into National Society of Leadership and Success

Thirty-seven students were recently inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) at Blackhawk Technical College. Blackhawk students were invited to be a part of the NSLS based on specific requirements that included: a minimum GPA of 2.5, completion of at least 6 credits, and/or being a student leader on campus. NSLS is the largest leadership honor society in the U.S. with more than 700 chapters and 1 million members.
