The hands-on experience during her clinical placements has helped Madie Wanless to network and gain the skills necessary to work as a dental assistant after she graduates this month.

Madie chose Blackhawk because of its affordability and state-of-the-art facilities.

“I was impressed with the lab and the tools they gave me in order to learn the content within the program,” she said.

Madie sees Blackhawk as accommodating, where there is always somebody willing to help you if you need it. She also believes that the small class sizes and individualized attention is what helps you grow as a student and be successful.

Dental program instructor Kristen Ziegler says Madie is an exemplary dental assistant student who is organized, determined and skillful in her academics and beyond.

“Madie serves as a role model for her fellow classmates and is a true joy to have in the classroom,” Kristen said.

Outside of class, Madie is involved in the Dental Auxillary Student Association, an organization that promotes leadership skills, networking and team-building opportunities, and dental-related educational enrichment.

By putting herself into new and what she considers slightly intimidating situations, Madie believes that has helped her prove that she’s ready to be a dental assistant.

Graduating this spring, Madie plans to work as a dental assistant and gain as much experience as she can before returning to further her education and become a dental hygienist.
